Give back. Join the GLGR Board.

Great Lakes Great Responsibility board members serve a three year term and attend monthly virtual meetings via Google Meet (currently the 4th Monday at 7pm EST). Board members also attend an annual retreat in northeast Michigan. This year's retreat is scheduled for October 23-25, 2026 in the Alpena/Ossineke area. Board Expectations:

  • Be informed about the organization’s mission and initiatives.

  • Be willing to share your time, expertise, and energy in working toward GLGR shared goals.

  • Work with the Board of Directors in planning and executing yearly goals and objectives for the organization.

  • Attend and actively participate in at least 10 Board meetings and one in-person board retreat in a 12-month period. 

    • Notify the Board Chair at least 24 hours prior to any missed meeting. 

    • More than 2 missed meetings will result in discussion with the Board Chair and potential resignation/removal from the board.

  • Attend and actively participate in at least two committees. 

  • Review all materials prior to the Board meeting including:

    • Agenda 

    • Previous board meeting minutes

    • Any supporting materials

  • Participate in email correspondences and maintain individual GLGR email accounts. 

  • Communicate in our private WhatsApp chats, share social media posts, newsletters, and any other relevant communications from GLGR among your networks.

  • Communicate with the Board Chair about:

    • Questions, trouble in making your commitments, can no longer serve on the board

    • Would like more responsibilities 

  • Promote and/or facilitate cleanups on behalf of Great Lakes Great Responsibility and contribute to our trash database at least twice per year by hosting a cleanup or doing your own cleanup.

  • Recruit/suggest future candidates for the Board of Directors and committees.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, August 31. Interviews will be conducted in September and elected board members will be asked to attend the in-person board retreat October 23-25 in Ossineke/Alpena, Michigan.
