Turn Your Passion
Into Action.
Already love the Great Lakes, but don’t know where to start or how you can make an impact? Every action you take, small or large, chips away at the issues threatening our beloved Great Lakes. Whether you make one small behavior change or join the movement in a larger way, your action matters.
Join the #GreatLakes1Million Challenge
One challenge you can take part in on your own time, no matter where you reside in the Great Lakes region.
Pick Up Trash
In your neighborhood, on a beach, or on a hike - trash picked up anywhere in the Great Lakes Basin counts, inland or on the coast. Pick up trash on your own or with a group and count your pieces as you go.
Report Your Data
Every piece counts, whether it’s 3 or 300. Report what you collected and watch our shared total climb toward our goal of 1 million.
Spread the Word
Share this challenge on social media, tag us in your trash/cleanup photos, and use hashtag #GreatLakes1Million to inspire others to join in.
Everyday Stewardship
There are plenty of small actions and changes we can make in our daily lives that have lasting impacts. Whether you try plogging on your next run, make changes to reduce your single-use plastic waste, or follow the Leave No Trace principles, you can be a part of the movement to reduce marine debris in the Great Lakes basin and beyond.
