Bio:

Cynthia Garbutt is the founder of Studio Cire Chicago, an encaustic art studio that started in 2014. Encaustic art dates back to the time of the Pharaohs and is a compelling form for contemporary abstract art. Using heat, wax, and pigmented oil paint, encaustic art features layers of texture and dimension. her biggest achievement is supporting worthy nonprofits with my art and selling pieces to benefit their humanitarian and climate goals.

"I live only a few blocks from Lake Michigan in Chicago and it is a thing of beauty. The sunrises over the beach, the crashing waves, the cool darkness under the stars at night - it brings calmness into the urban environment.  I try to incorporate that sense of beauty and calmness into my encaustic work."
